Herman

I have recently done a clean install of XP home edition. I
went to the update website and began to download all the
essential updates. The only problem is that these updates
take forever to install, even when I do them one at a
time. A 2 MB update takes literally hours to download and
install. Has anyone else experienced that?

Thanks,

I used the steps in method four of this article to fix
mine when it had this problem even though this aritcle
says for0% problem after loading the iuctl on my computer
then it stoped taking so long.

sounds like you are on a phone line. You have a 56K
modem. Either your phone company does not support 56K, or
your ISP is with someone other then your phone company. Go
to address following to see just how fast your connection
is HTTP://WWW.BANDWIDTHPLACE.COM/SPEEDTEST/INDEX.HTML
You will get an accurate reading. Go from there. ps-I have
cable and downloads are almost instantaneous. I don't
think the problem is on microsoft's end.

Thanks for your reply. Actually I have a fast internet
cable connection, which is all the more puzzling.
