Hi everyone long time no see.
Well, I've held out for as long as I could but I'm about to update from Windows 10 to Windows 11 !!
Just wanted a perspective on any pitfalls that I should watch out for.
I've held out this long as I'm terrified of losing data and I'm backng up all my personal windows files etc onto a portable hard drive.
However will things like the Thunderbird email app with all my old emails still be there after the download? What might disappear?
There's some stuff on there I can't afford to lose.
Ie. does it keep everything else the same or does it wipe the slate clean?
Some advice would be appreciated.

Make sure to choose the option that keeps your current setup.

Even if it wouldn't be affected (I don't think it would), you should still backup your data and Thunderbird files.
Some emails may be with your data and some may be in the Thunderbird app.

See here for Thunderbird:

Disaster, I think!!!
Set the Windows 11 update going and 8 hours later it finished!! Looked a bit of a mess so I turned off and left it overnight.
Next morning I turned it on again and lo and behold it was absolutely fine.
Worked with it for about 5 days and then I noticed the sound wasnt on - it said 'no audio device is installed.
I rebooted and after a while it came up with an error message and eventually a blue screen giviing me options on how to repair the damage - all a bit out of my league. Nowit works as such (still no sound) but keep getting error messages coming up (white cross on red background with messages I don't understand).
Any ideas whats best to do?

Roll back to Windows 10 and do a fresh install of W11 rather than an upgrade.

Well, Ive learnt a lot in last week or so!
I downloaded Windows 11 on my main computer and it took 8 hours!
It looked a bit of a mess but when I came back to it next morning it looked ok and everything appeared in order.
It worked ok for three days..... and then the problems started. The PC wouldn't reboot and after several attempts it finally worked, but now items were missing along the bottom bar. I struggled on but it kept crashing and then I turned it on in the morning and it wouldnt work at all. Error message after error message, I even tried to roll back to Win 10 and that didnt work either. I've been through all the diagnostics stuff I could find and tried everything in that to repair it, but the whole thing's completely Kaput! I even tried to do a factory reset but to no avail. Although the Dell pc's over 6 years old I thought it might last a bit longer.......until Windows 11 came along!!!!!

So its a new PC for me.
