linux is crap.. but vista is....

Good for you.
I've seen it a gazillion times.

BTW, Ubuntu you say?
Did these mouse pressing clueless types manage to get multimedia,
including all the CODECS, DIVIX etc working all by themselves?

Hmmmm?

Seeing how when I set up a system for someone, be it windows or Linux, I
don't do half-assed jobs...so I made sure everything is set up ahead of
time. Similarly to how a PC comes when the average joe buys it OEM at a
store.

I can tell you for sure though one thing I *know* they couldn't do, the
reason they asked for my help in the first place...

In all cases, they came to me with messed up windows installations that
they couldn't fix because it was beyond repair. So in all cases, they
were facing a OS re-install anyway. And seriously, when I say beyond
repair, I literally mean beyond repair.

One had about 60 concurrently running malware and spyware processes, yes,
I counted them...and on another system, XP was so messed up it couldn't
even boot anymore, safe mode included.

Now you really think that said mouse pressing clueless types would manage
to setup up a fresh windows install? Install drivers? Configure their
LAN? Configure their firewall? Configure their security? Configure their
anti-virus and anti-spyware software (or even install it in the first
place).

I simply made the suggestion that seeing how they need to reinstall their
OS anyway, after checking their software needs and see if it is possible,
why not try an alternative. So far, everyone is happy. Ultimately, that
is all that matters.

You just proved his point, rather nicely I might add.
The average user doesn't stand a chance with Linux.

You're full of shit. The "average user" can figure out or learn how to
install software on a Linux box just as easily as learning how to do it on
a Windoze box. Only difference is, that it's so much easier to do on a
Linux box.

Cheers.

If you have not seen that happening you are a linux newbie!

I wont even start talking about the siutation where you will have to complie
an app.

lol

In linux you have lots of software yes.. but even so, if you compare it with
the amount of software available (even if we are talking about the free
ones) for windows.. there is no comparisson.

FYI there is also freespire that works with a site called CNR (click n run).
The new freespire is based on ubuntu but doesnt look like it at.

another problem is that with WIN you end up needing 2 antivirus and 5
antispyware bogging down the system just so you can go online and do some
stuff

No, I'm simply realistic.
I wont even start talking about the siutation where you will have to complie
an app.

lol

I'm a programmer for a living, I compile my own software probably about
50+ times a day. Ya really think compiling software scares me?

That said, I've not once done it for any linux software I use on my
systems. There simply is no need, everything I need is available via the
repositories. So why should I bother downloading the source and compiling?

In linux you have lots of software yes.. but even so, if you compare it with
the amount of software available (even if we are talking about the free
ones) for windows.. there is no comparisson.

You mean all the dozens of registry cleaners for Windows? I have no need
for them.

You mean all the dozens of anti virus programs for Windows? I have no need
for them.

You mean all the dozens of anti spyware programs for Windows? Again, no
need for them.

You mean all the dozens of other little program that in some way make up
for Windows' deficiencies? I have no need for them as features those
programs add to Windows come standard in Linux.

About the only windows software I currently miss under Linux are either
games as that is still a market dominated by windows, and some CAD/CAM
apps that are windows only.

Everything else...I have absolutely no need for windows or it's available
software, so how much is available is rather irrelevant when I don't need
it.
FYI there is also freespire that works with a site called CNR (click n
run). The new freespire is based on ubuntu but doesnt look like it at.

And CNR is ultimately nothing much different than the built in synaptic
package manager in Ubuntu. Same principle, different name.
