Good for you.
I've seen it a gazillion times.
BTW, Ubuntu you say?
Did these mouse pressing clueless types manage to get multimedia,
including all the CODECS, DIVIX etc working all by themselves?
Hmmmm?
Seeing how when I set up a system for someone, be it windows or Linux, I
don't do half-assed jobs...so I made sure everything is set up ahead of
time. Similarly to how a PC comes when the average joe buys it OEM at a
store.
I can tell you for sure though one thing I *know* they couldn't do, the
reason they asked for my help in the first place...
In all cases, they came to me with messed up windows installations that
they couldn't fix because it was beyond repair. So in all cases, they
were facing a OS re-install anyway. And seriously, when I say beyond
repair, I literally mean beyond repair.
One had about 60 concurrently running malware and spyware processes, yes,
I counted them...and on another system, XP was so messed up it couldn't
even boot anymore, safe mode included.
Now you really think that said mouse pressing clueless types would manage
to setup up a fresh windows install? Install drivers? Configure their
LAN? Configure their firewall? Configure their security? Configure their
anti-virus and anti-spyware software (or even install it in the first
place).
I simply made the suggestion that seeing how they need to reinstall their
OS anyway, after checking their software needs and see if it is possible,
why not try an alternative. So far, everyone is happy. Ultimately, that
is all that matters.
