Link between XP and 2000

Assumed the cable is appropiate for the connection.

I don't know why it doesn't work between XP and 2000, as
I can do it via two 2000 neetworks.

I share the network by right click the ISP connect icon,
and shares the internet with my laptop. It works. But,
when I open the "Network" on desktop, I can locate my
desktop (XP) in my laptop. When I try to get access to my
desktop, it asks me for password. I enter the same
password as I do for logging in to my Desktop, it fails~

All I want is just transfer my files between two
computers - Desktop (XP), Laptop (2000)

Please help~

To access the XP, you need to have created a user account which the same
name and password found on Windows 2000 system.

I'm sorry, but how can I creat a new user account? In XP
or 2000 and where?
Currently I don't use any password in my 2000, just
administrator without password.

In W2K go to Control Panel-Users and create an account there.

You should NOT use the built-in Administrator account for day to day use. It
is VERY bad security practice amongst other things.

On the WinXP PC, create local user account(s), with password(s),
that have the desired access privileges to the desired shares. Log on
to the other PCs using those account(s), and you will be able to
access the designated shares, provided your network is configured
properly. Also, make sure that WinXP's built-in firewall
is disabled on the internal LAN connection.

On the Win2K PC, create local user account(s), with password(s),
that have the desired access privileges to the desired shares. Log on
to the other PCs using those account(s), and you will be able to
access the designated shares, provided your network is configured
properly.

Usually, WinXP's Networking Wizard makes it simple and painless --
almost entirely automatic, in fact. There's a lot of useful,
