Sharing Files by Direct Link between Win2000 and XP Computers

Hi - I'm at my wits end (it's not a long trip). I have a home desktop with
XP Pro, and a work laptop with 2000 Pro (that is part of a domain). I have a
USB-USB (Genelink) cable, and installed file sharing software on both
computers. I've been able to share between an old Win98 computer and XP,
but I can't get it to work between the 2000 laptop and the XP desktop. I
need to transfer some large files from the laptop to the desktop. I have
Zone Alarm Pro Integrity loaded on both, but even if I disable them, it
doesn't work. All I want to do is the transfer the files using the direct
USB-USB cable. I
also posted this to the Win2000 newsgroup, but it doesn't seem as active.
Can anyone help? Thanks!

you will have to change the laptop to a workgroup machine. Im not sure
you want to do this unles you are sure you can set it back. I would ask
the admins at work how to go about this, they might not like you messing
with the settings.

Basically the laptop is looking to join its domain and your home network
is a workgroup.

Tried that already, it still wouldn't transfer files and it was a major
hassle to get rejoined to the domain. Had to make an appt. and bring my
laptop into our home office. Is there any other way? Can I make the XP
computer think it's part of the same domain as my laptop, or something like
that? Thanks.

Yes, the folder is shared. I really think this has something to do with
setting up matching up workgroup names (which apparently is needed for the
shared files to be "seen"). I can't create a workgroup on my Win2000 laptop
without dissociating the computer from the domain.
