Laptop (Win2000) can not see network, but can connect to Internet

For some reason my laptop can not see the network via my network places, and only sees itself. The network can not see it either, yet it is connected to the internet via the network, and prints through a network print server. I do not want to reinstall win2000 if possible. Any suggestions?
