Issues With Login

For the past couple weeks I have had problems logging onto Windows XP. I get
to the Welcome screen, my wallpaper briefly appears for one second and then
it automatically loops back to prompt me to login. Whenever I attempt to
login, it immediately forces me to log-off.

I tried resolving this issue w/safemode and trying to restore through the
last best settings, but the problem is still there. I tried even restoring
to factory settings, but that hasnt resolved the problem.

Unfortunately, I misplaced my restore copy of Windows XP, but I attempted
using the one that came w/my laptop, but it doesnt seem compatible since it
doesnt boot up.

Does anyone have any suggestion on resolving this? Just prior to this, I
had a virus detected and thought it was deleted...It caused my anti-virus
software (provided by my internet provider) to have to be re-installed. I
cannot seem to resolve this whatsoever.... I have a Dell Dimension 8400 which
isnt even 2-years old and I cannot figure out what to do... Thanks in advance

I didnt check thru this forum prior to posting this, however, I actually
noticed this is a common problem.....

I realized that the most common solution involved using a floppy disk,
however, unfortunately my computer doesnt have a hard-disk drive, so I still
dont know honestly what to do....

Im just thinking of waiting until Windows Vista comes out, however, it
appears that wont be until January and there is no way I will be able to
contend w/out my home computer... Plus.. I must add that I use Windows XP
home edition... Again, any solution to my problem would be greatly
appreciated.
