Hello Can anyone tell me why my ISP which is cable, routinely does port scans on my computer? I do use an alternate DNS which I register with dhcp server

They shouldn't.
Are you sure it is them and not another subscriber ?
If in doubt - ask them (your ISP)

Thank you for your reply, I guess I'm not 100% sure so I sent a firewall report to their abuse team and also to support, There is of course the acceptance use policy which from my understanding will not be tolerated if broken, you know a port scan seems to me the same violation as if someone was outside my house looking for a way to get in.

I absolutely agree that there is never a good reason for a user to be port
scanning your machine - and yes it is similar to someone actually walking up
to the doors and windows of you house and trying the locks to see if they
are open.
