Is my CF a non removable?

How do I know if my CF card act as a non removable? In BIOS it looks
like a hardrive. Windows diskmanager says that it is a removable disk.
If the CF was provided as non removable, wouldn't Windows treat it so?
The problem is that I can't make it boot with XPE. What do you think?

Lelle,

Sandisk is the one of the manufacturers that offers a utility to mark their
CF product as non-removable. There is an NDA agreement which needs to be
signed to obtain it. I think Simpletech also offers a non-removable CF, but
it's not available on a retail level. I'm sure there are others by now.
Based on your previous post I don't think that Viking, or Memorex offers a
non-removable solution. Your best bet it to get your runtime working on a
hard drive while you investigate the CF options. And as always don't run FBA
on a CF because the writes to the disk are extensive. Run FBA on a hard disk
first, configure your runtime, and then transfer to your CF. HTH,

I've got a sample of the new sandisk CF, part no. SDCFB-256-201-80
(256MB, 201 means new and fast controller chip).
This CF came to me as a non-removable device: I didn't have to use the
sandisk tool on it (the old tool doesn't work at all with the new CF).
Perhaps they learned something from the past?

I got an answer from the Viking support and they says that
their card acts like non removable. Can I belive them? How
do your cards look in windows diskmanager? As removable?
Maybe I should by a Sandisk CF card, just to be sure about
it.

If you can make two partitions from disk manager then it is non-removable.
Simple is it not?

i can suggest u one way (that have been using), u can
leave attached CF while booting any other windows OS such
as win2000 or XP. these OS are smart enough to determine
whether CF is marked as removable or not.
