Is it necessary to have a driver update software?

I am a computer novice and have no knowledge of computer drivers. Is it necessary to have a driver update software? I find a driver update tool from (Link removed by FBS)
Hope someone give me suggestions. Is it safe to download a driver software on my PC?
Has anyone ever tried this website?

No, it's not (safe), that site was well iffy - avoid.
