is AVG anti virus and spybot the same thing

hi,i`m sorting out my security things,at the moment i have AVG for anti
virus,and i have been recommended to use spybot search and destroy,are these
programs for the same use or are they different?do i need to uninstall AVG to
get spy bot or can they work together?thanks in advance

No they are not the same thing. I use Spybot..Adaware SE..Spyware Blaster
and Norton Antivirus. They will work together just fine. The AVG protect
against viruses and worms. They others are for spyware and other scumware.

thanks alot ricky,i`ll get on with it now so please could you tell me i will
have:
ad-ware,spybot,AVG,and sygate personal firewall installed,have i got the
things i most need?

You have the essentials. Just practice safe computing and you should have no
problems.
