iPod Suffle - USB Device not recognized by Windows

I am running Windows XP Home Edition and when I place my iPod into the USB
port, I receive the error above. The device did work previously. Please note
that I have connected other devices to the port so it is not a desktop
problem. If I connect my iPod to my laptop which is also running XP, the
device is recognized.

I am not sure if it is a Home Edition issue or not

Have you tried using another USB port ?

Try to remember what you did just prior to it stopping working. System
Restore (probably won't work ....) ???

The drastic work around is as follows :

1) open up Device Manager

2) Delete all USB hubs

3) re-boot. XP will re-find and install the USB hubs (BTW do NOT have
anything plugged into them whilst doing this step).

4) Once finished, plug in your iPod, it should work.

5) Fire up iTunes and load away.

BTW, if you PC has several USB ports, spread your devices around, don't
always use them on the same port. XP sometimes (not always) gets confused
and corrupted if everything is centred on 1 single port.

Cheers,
Jerry
