hi,

my internet explorer doesn't load some web sites (www.cnet.com) and i find
that the speed that the websites used to load at has become SIGNIFICANTLY
slower. Alot of people tell me this a problem my internet provider has to
work out (DSL) but i'm almost positive that it is not (the other cpu in the
house connected to the same internet provider works fine). I think it might
be some of the microsoft updates messing things up. In "add/remove programs"
i have about 15 occurences called "windows xp hotfix". i'm the only one i
know who has those on my cpu. are they the problem? plz help =P

Those "hotfixes" are the result of Windows Update. When you install Service
Pack 2, they will all be collapsed. They are not the reason for Internet
Explorer's slow download.

If you are still convinced that it may be the hotfixes, download and install
SP2.

I have dwnloaded SP2 but it didn't seem to affect my cpu in any noticeable
areas, so i removed it. In the past it seems that ms updates have only caused
problems with my system, i'm a little skeptical but i will try again.

There are a variety of reasons for the slowdown. It is possible that
one of those hotfixes that you see in add/remove programs caused a
problem, but then again there are many other reasons like malware --
adware, spyware, trojans, worms, viruses, etc. Can you correlate the
slowdown with any one of those hotfix updates? If not leave them there.
The system needs them to be safe. See this link for tips on
troubleshooting a slow computer which includes slow internet browsing:

Also delete all the temporary internet files, do a disk clean up and
defrag (this should all be mentioned in the link).

You shouldn't see any noticeable changes to your cpu, but tons of
changes, some of which you will encounter, some that will be transparent.
