Hi Tubtaz,
I have a problem. I have a new computer with Microsoft Home XP. I have a cable connection and must have gone to the wrong site, something was downloaded that has highjacked my internet explorer. Now everything I try to search my internet explorer goes to
www.ScanTheNet.com when I try going to
www.google.com,
www.yahoo.com or anything internet explorer is directed to
www.ScanTheNet.com I have purchased spyware removers but this has not helped. I have purchased a firewall to prevent future problems. I tried to remove internet explorer with add and remove programs to try and reinstall, I guess I shouldn't have tried that. How do I get internet explorer back on desk top and how do I remove the highjacked
www.ScanTheNet.com from my internet explorer? Please help!
The only way to surf the web is through my compuserve account. My email address there is (e-mail address removed)
Thanks for any help, Brad
By default, Internet Explorer 6 is preinstalled in all versions of
Windows XP and cannot be removed. To provide computer manufacturers
more flexibility in configuring desktop versions of Windows XP,
Microsoft has made it possible for OEMs, administrators, and users to
remove user access to Internet Explorer while leaving the Internet
Explorer code intact and fully functional to make sure the
functionality of programs and operating system functions that rely on
it. For example, Windows XP supports an "IEAccess=off" switch in the
Unattend.txt file, and Internet Explorer has been added to the
Add/Remove Windows Components section of the Add/Remove Programs tool
in Control Panel. This does not reinstall Internet Explorer.
Go to the Add/Remove components and choose IE.
Download the utility CWshredder:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip
Unzip - close *all* instances of IE & OE, hit the executable and
follow
the prompts.
You can also download Hijack This from here:
http://www.mjc1.com/files/merijn/hijackthis.exe
Go here:
http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/
For instructions on how to use it; you have to post the log it
produces so experts tell you what is good and what is malware
Try downloading, installing and updating the
spyware removers from the links below. Run both of them.

Spybot S&D

If these don't correct the problem, then get yourself a copy of
BHODemon, available at
http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm .
It does not need installing - simply unzip and run the EXE program. It
is easy to use. It will find the hijackware DLL files, and give you
the ability to disable them.
Hope this helps.
