Internet Connection Sharing

I am using a small home network with Windows XP Home. The
network works perfectly between PCs. However I cannot
implement ICS on the host because it doesn´t appear to
have ICS installed! When I open the Advanced Tab of the
internet connection properties there is no facility
available to share the connection. I know what should
appear on the Advanced Tab because it´s available on my
laptop which runs XP Professional. Am I missing something
or are there versions of XP Home which don´t have ICS
available?

ICS can't be installed or un-installed in XP. The ICS option only
appears when all of these are true:

1. There are at least two enabled, connected network connections: one
for the Internet, and one or more for the LAN.

2. The Internet Connection Firewall is disabled on the LAN
connection(s).

3. The Internet connection isn't bridged.

Thanks for the response. I have tried to initiate ICS but
the dialog box does not appear on the Advanced Tab. As
suggested I have active connections to both the internet
(Dial Up) and the ´LAN´ (in this case a Direct Cable
Connection) but still the ICS dialog box does not appear.
I don´t think my Internet connection is bridged. Could
the problem be that I am using Direct Cable Connection
and not a true LAN? Any help appreciated.

Yes, that's the problem. ICS requires an Ethernet connection for the
home network. It can't use a serial or parallel Direct Cable
Connection.
