Setting up ICS breaks Internet connection

T

Tallan

I have a Sagem DSL modem supplied by Tiscali connected to my computer
by USB. I have Win XP [home/pro/service pack level 3]. I want to use
Internet Connection Sharing to connect another computer. When I run the
Network Setup Wizard to setup ICS, everything works OK until I reboot.
At that point, my Internet connection is gone and I get error 720. The
Internet connection survives a reboot if I don't setup ICS."

I have run netsh int ip c:\resetlog.txt and netsh winsock reset, but I
still have the original problem.

In addition, if I use a different computer, which has Win XP
[home/pro/service pack level 3] to connect to the Sagem modem, I can setup
ICS on that computer and have no problems after rebooting.

This is proving to be an irritatingly intractable problem.

The problem is most likely with IP ranges, since ICS forces the use of a
specific IP range.

In any case I would suggest that this way of doing things is a Bad Idea. You
would be much better purchasing a DSL modem/router. They are now very
inexpensive and are almost fit-and-forget.

Hi
Make sure that ICS is Off.
Configure the computer with these Static IPs.
Host Computer Second Network card (the one that goes to the client
computer).
IP 192.168.0.1
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.0.1
domain nameserver 192.168.0.1
The Client Network card
IP 192.168.0.2
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.0.1
domain nameserver 192.168.0.1
Switch On ICS and your are good to go.
