ICS stopped working

ICS stopped working after a computer crash and I can't get it up and
running again! The problems seem to be related to DHCP settings:
they're turned off for both the internet connection and the LAN
adaptor in the output of "ipconfig /all". The DHCP service *is*
running so they should be working. The logfiles also show errors 31012
abd 31008 for IPNATHLP.

The host computer seems to be working fine except for ICS. The client
isn't assigned an ip-address though. I tried to fix that by assigning
a static ip-address using the instructions at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=309642
Didn't work though. The client can *see* the server at Network
Neighbourhood, Windows Network Clients, but can't access files
(insufficient permissions). The client can't access internet, even if
I enter a valid ip-address in a browser, pinging doesn't work either.

I've tried deleting the internet connection and LAN adaptor, then
re-installing ICS. I've also tried to reset networking on the server
using:

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
netsh winsock reset
ipconfig /renew

sfc /scannow shows no problems.

So I'm pretty much at wits end. Any suggestions on how to get ICS up
and running again? I know I can solve my problems with a hardware
router but I'd rather not do that at this time.

Advance thanks for any help,
John Hendrickx

Depending on the crash, do a restore to the day before the crash. That
normally solves it all.

Well, I went the router route and now internet is working again on
both computers. But I couldn't get the router to work with the "host"
computer at first. After consulting with support, I replaced the
network card (which wasn't fastened with a screw) and now it all works
fine.

But the problem with the network card could very well be the reason
ICS stopped working. The problems started after a memory upgrade, that
caused the crashes and necessated opening the computer several times.
Device manager did indicate the network card was functioning, it was
automatically re-installed after deleting it from device manager, a
green light was on. I guess it was just loose enough to cause all the
trouble :-(
