ICS and DNS resolution

Greetings and Salutations!

I am trying to work through a problem. I am sharing a wireless broadband
connection using ICS. The system is XP Pro SP2.

The clients get IP's and can get web pages if accessed via an IP address.
They are not resolving DNS requests.

The ICS "server" has the ISP's DNS servers configured on the NIC, I have
added port 53udp as an exception to the windows internet firewall.

I am getting the error code 31008 from IPNATHLP whereas the DNS proxy agent
was unable to read the local list of name-resolutions servers from the
registry. The data is in the error code.

I have tried installing/reinstalling drivers, reconfiguring the ICS.

Please Help

I'm not sure what's wrong with the server, but you can work around the
problem by manually configuring TCP/IP on the clients:

IP Address: 192.168.0.x (1<x<255)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server = your ISP's DNS servers

It's also possible that un-sharing and then re-sharing the connection
on the server will solve the problem.

Manually is not rellay an option, think web cafe. We do not want to work on
customers computers. Our service is on a bus rolling down the highway, there
is no IT support on the bus.

And I have been down the road of un sharing re sharing the connection
several times.

I recommend using something more robust and reliable than XP's
Internet Connection Sharing for your application. Does your wireless
broadband connection have an Ethernet output? If so, connect it to a
wired or wireless broadband router to do the Internet sharing.
