Internet access went away?

I have both Ethernet and wireless available in my house. I have 5 laptops
and one desktop networked in this house.

Our cable modem and/or router had a problem yesterday morning. I replaced
the router and everything went back to normal except one XP laptop.

Three of my other laptops are Vista, the rest of the computers a XP. But I
somehow messed up my XP laptop - the one I use to make money on.

I did a restore from the previous day. That fixed a different problem but
did not solve the internet problem.

This laptop has a switch that toggles "Wireless disabled" and "wireless
enabled" at the bottom of the screen. This has stopped working. I have
used connection wizard and have done repair. Nada. When I attempt
wireless, it does ask for my encryption code, then tries for a little while,
then gives up.

Ideas, anyone? TIA, Paul

Is it an Acer laptop? I had a similar problem with one once. Have you tried
re-installing the drivers from the manufactuer web-site? They may have
updated them anyhow. Hope this helps

Yup, it's an Acer. But there is no reason the drivers changed. I'm not up
to the effort it would take to do what you suggest.

My updates are up-to-date, as is my anti-virus (Avast) and spy-ware
(AdAware).

So unless someone can tell me why both my Ethernet and my wireless are being
ignored, I'll restore everything from my StorageCraft backup - even the OS -
fortunately I took one last week.

Really? Drivers are easy to download and install. I would certainly try that
before restoring from a backup. Besides, you'll probably need the updated
drivers sooner or later anyway.
