I have a win 2000 pro laptop with all current updates and protection
software. I have a wireless connection to ADSL services. For over a month
now my PC freezes intermittently for a few minutes interrupting everything
am doing. I have google searched and read some quite complicated articles
(which I do not know how to appy) so I have not been able to fix this.
Please help me with this and/or refer me to a source of information. I have
run out of warranty and my laptop is no longer supported by its maker ( 4
yrs. old) so am trying to save some money.

Thanks, Josie

It would be a god Idea to run spybot search and destroy and/or adaware to
scan for spyware. If you've ever installed a "free" piece of software
there is almost a certainty that you have spyware on your computer,
eventhough it may not be doing anything "Harmful" on your computer it does
take up resources (CPU, Memory, Harddrive space), and it can crash causing
you headaches.

In addition to your spyware, make sure you have up to date virus scanning
software. Computer Associates is currently giving away a free year of Virus
Scanning software, and Grisoft.com also has a free virsion.

Try the above to see if you may have any spyware or anything else.

Post here again if you stil have issues after performing these two steps.

Sorry couldn't respond sooner, was out of town. I did everything you said,
which by the way I do on a regular basis (Ad Aware, Spybott, Spyblaster,
Norton AV, all with current updates), and for some reason I did find
something new this time with Spybott S&D. It was removed. I do not
understand why it wasn't found before but what counts is that I have not
had any significant freezes since then. Thank you so much for helping me.
