PowerPoint Freeze animation

Is there a way to freeze an animation as an animation. I know about pressing 1 and ! while the slide is playing, but 1 will freeze all subsequent animations on the same slide. I am trying to freeze a spinner at the correct answer and have. Show answer appear while the spin animation is stopped. Restarting with ! defeats the object. It isn't possible to do a workaround like disappear followed by appear in the right position because 1 freezes everything.

I have now discovered that "appear" works to stop a spin animation, but it resets it to the original position. How can I continue where I left off?
