Pulsing short mouse freezes

I have two freezing problems with my Toshiba laptop.

Intermittently, my mouse will freeze for just an instant in about
one-second pulses. Also, I will be writing and the keyboard will
freeze for about 2-3 seconds. I think it's video since when it
unfreezes all the keystrokes are there. Every freeze is ended by a
quick disk read or write. The keyboard freeze seems to start with
the disk spinning up.

I've tried to diagnose the cause using a process viewer and Task
Manager. The closest I can get is "hardware interrupt." I've
updated my video driver but it didn't change anything. Anyone have
any ideas?

Do you have enough RAM memory? My Toshiba Satelite laptop came with 256
MB of RAM, which is shared with the video card. With only the bare
minimum applications running, Task Manager showed that I was using over
256 MB. Therefore, any application that needed to swap in or out needed
to access the hard drive. I added more memory to my laptop and it now
runs much better.

Memory may not be your problem, but it is an easy thing to check.
