I have a workstation with a dual core intel 6600 chip which freezes the
mouse cursor many times a day. The freeze ususally lasts 3-5 seconds.
During the 'freeze', if I move the mouse, the cursor itself does not
move, but I can see effects that indicate that the pointer is in fact
moving...for instance, rollover effects (backcolor changes that usually
occur on a control when the mouse passes over) still take place.
I had some issue like this years ago when I had a dual cpu pc. I was
told that drivers weren't sophisticated enough to handle the dual cpus.
I am wondering if it's the same issue now, with dual core technology.
I am not sure but with the current pc I may have had the task manager
open once and saw the #1 cpu maxed out during a freeze.
The freeze often takes place during intense cpu or disk activity; it's
exactly like the cpu that was handling the mouse cursor has starved it
in favor of some other process.
I've already installed the lastest nvidia video card drivers and they
didn't help at all. I tried the latest logitech mouse drivers and they
had no effect.
I found a microsoft patch that was supposed to
mouse cursor many times a day. The freeze ususally lasts 3-5 seconds.
