Random Startup Freeze Problem

F

Frog

I intermittently have a problem with my computer during startup. It
seems to give me a window for NForce followed by Windows XP window
showing a a bar like my system is loading. The next window is where I
have the random freeze problem. This window has a left and right panel.
The panel on the left includes Microsoft Windows XP/To begin, click
your user name. The panel on the right shows my user name/and the
number of Unread Mail Messages. Please understand that there is only
one user on this computer.

I don't know how to determine why my system freezes intermittently at
this point.

Windows XP Professional/SP-3

I know that I probably am missing some details in this message that
would help you help me solve this problem. If so, please identify the
information needed, and how to collect that information.

Thanks in advance for any help sent my way.

It's "freezing" because it's waiting for you to click on the user and
enter the password.

Either use the info here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315231
and see the last suggestion regarding control userpasswords2,
or download TweakUI and set the auto login:

Check in Event Viewer.
Click Start==>Run... then type (or copy/paste) "eventvwr.msc" (w/out
quotation marks) into the box, then click the 'OK' button.

Thanks for your response.

I understand that it is waiting for me to click my user account (only
one account on my system) before moving on to opening windows. (Note: I
don't have a password, unless it is a default password, on my system.)
How do I click the user account on this window if the cursor is frozen
in place? I can restart the computer and it will allow me to move the
cursor to my account, I click it, and windows opens normally. It is
only intermittently that the cursor freezes and I have to push the reset
button on the front of my computer to make it restart.

My question has to do with solving the frozen cursor on this log on window.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I did check the Event Viewer/System log and nothing our of the normal
appears on this log. The only warning appearing on this log has to do
with W32Time. This entry only appears occasionally.

The Event Viewer/Application log shows one warning that appears several
times a day---Userenv (Event ID 1054). I am investigating what this
warning.

OOPS, I got the event number wrong. It should have been 1517. Sorry.

Okay, it wasn't real clear before. Try updating your video drivers (or
rolling back using System Restore if the issue started after you updated).

Also, I found recently that USB keyboards or mice may cause intermittent
hangs when using PS2 adapters that may not be securely connecting (due
to possibly the cable pulling on the connector). If you are using them,
try using the USB connector instead.
