Control Panel Hang

There is a hang problem when I do the following :
Start> Control Panel> Switch to classic view (or Switch to Standard View)
The windows clears the lower left and right sides of the window and the
folder being displayed at the right side of the window intermittently gets
updated but the left side doesn't get updated and the whole window stops
responding. After several minutes (1-10) I have to force the window to close
by clicking on the "close button" and a window pops up telling me the program
is not responding so I click End Now then the Control Panel and Not
Responding windows go away. But subsequent invocation
of a Control Panel does show the view which I had selected, but switching
between the Category & Classic view freezes!

Is there a patch/fix for this bug?

No, I have not checked the Event Viewer. However, I will look at it.

From the link your provided in your reply, what exactly am I to look for
there?

You may try:-

Control Panel - Classic or Category View (Line 145)

Ok, so I downloaded the CPClassicView.reg and CPCategoryview.reg files and
what I notice is that it only gives me one of the view at a time. I cannot
say, I want to switch to Classic while I'm on Category, or vice-versa. So I
have to either stick with one.

My complaint, however was that whenever I use the "Category view", I cannot
click on the links without it hanging. I cannot navigate through the other
Control Panel options without having to "force-close" my window and then go
back to square one.

So what it seems I just got from executing the "CPClassicView.reg" file was
that I'd stick with the Classic view option, not being able to return to the
category view and without having any issues going through my Control Panel.

So does it mean there's nothing I can use to solve the Category view hanging?

I hope to read from you soon, again!

Thanks for the help so far.
