installing xp home problem

hi there, i am installing on a pc that has been formatted, but when i start setup it gets to 'starting windows' to go on to main install but either freezes or switches to dark blue screen saying windows was shut down to prevent errors. do i have a hardware problem? anyone please. ttfn gary
 
I'd pull nay add on cards(modem, sound and so on) disable onboard sound if
you have it, disable onboard LAN. Unplug any "extra" drives other than you
primary HDD and CD. then try again......
