Installing Windows XP Home

I have a problem installing windows and it seems to be something to do with
Windows SP2.

I have a P4 3.2 with a Lanparty Pro 875B Rev B M/B. PC had been working
very well of the past 4 years and I have decided it was time to reset up
windows on it for Mum and Dad before buying a new PC for my self.

I started the install with a Win Pro CD SP2 as per normal and the HDD a
160gb was detected and I started to install windows. The Dos part of the
setup finished and rebooted the PC and before the second part of the setup
could continue the PC would freeze on the Windows XP splash screen. The blue
bar would stop and the keyboard would not respond.

I tried this again a different CD and the same thing happened. I tried with
another HDD and still the same thing. I went and purchased a brand new copy
of windows XP home and tried and this also did the same thing. I purchased a
new HDD and also the same thing.

I tried a copy of Vista and this worked fine but was too slow to be run on
the PC so I removed it. I tried using an old Windows XP pro SP0 and this
worked windows installed and I was up and running until I installed SP2 and
then the same thing happened. I tried upgrading all the drivers checking the
Bios is the last one available on the website. All before installing windows
XP SP2 aging and still not luck. I searched around the net and found a lot
of people had the same problems back in 2005 when SP2 was just released but
all said to upgrade your bios. There is some problem with some of the Intel
875 Chipsets when using a Prescott CPU.

Dose anyone have any suggestions????????

What I'd do is install XP SP1 and for now leave it at that.

Then when SP3 comes out back up any data and give sp3 a try.

If you really feel like an adventure you could download SP3 now
(though it has not yet been officially released)
and before the machine gets used...give it a try

just install XP (no sp) then go right to sp3 and see what happens
