installing broadband

i attempted to install bradband internet many months ago and gave up.
although i'm still paying for it. when it gets to the part when the company
tries to connect with my computer to, um get my files in their database, i
guess, it never happens. that's because it's unable to connect . we've
already checked the basics, all of the erternal connections from the modem to
the computer, to the walljack, are all plugged in correctly. we used an
ethernet connection and a usb connection. i suspected the usb connection
wasfaulty because we've had problems with it before, for example, it didn't
recognize a hardware device which was an external floppy disk drive. but
after a while we regarded the external drive defective because it started to
operate incorrectly. we are so confused and helpless because our dial up
connection is so slow. it takes 120 seconds to wait for the next page to
open. as a result we rarely use it. what is the problem? we would greatly
appreciate your help.

You should call your provider. They can try to connect to your modem and can
tell you over the phone if the circuit is good from them to the modem. If
that is working then it would be something with your computer. If your not
computer literate enough for their tech support to talk you through it, then
their tech support should send somebody out to your house to look for the
problem.
