There are many possibilities. It could be a scratched or
dirty cd. I have had a bad memory chip cause a similar
problem. I would try these 2 first. if it continues to
occur try to copy the cd to the hard drive to install.
Try a different cd-rom. I hate to tell you, but most of
the times that i see that, it's a motherboard. Best of
luck. Remember, if it is the board, it's proprietary,
which mean's you'll have to buy it from Gateway, which
will cost you the same amount as a new dell system.
