initial setup and install

During the setup process my computer tells me the following:
setup cannot copy the file: driver.cab
setup cannot copy the file: ringout.wav
setup cannot copy the file: autochk.exe
setup cannot copy the file: drvindex.inf
setup cannot copy the file: sp2.cab
Sometimes I am able to get the computer to read all but driver.cab and
continue to the installation portion of the setup process. Once in the
installation process I get a fatal error during installation: "cyclic
redundancy check" memory error, the error sources out of the I386 folder. I
have tried to copy the folder to the desktop of another computer and recieve
an error "cannot copy TJUPG: cannot read from the source file or disk". Now
in my experience of dealing with installation errors of other pieces of
software the CD is defective and needs to be replaced. I try to obtain
support from support.microsoft.com email or chat and neither one will
recognize my product key that is clearly printed on the back of my xp folder,
as i am not able to find it the way the website wants me to because it won't
install.

How do I fix this or how do I get the disk repaired?

Sean: To the best of my knowledge, MS discs aren't copy-protected,
so you mite move this CD to another PC *(w/ a burner)* and dupe this
CD. Maybe it's a media problem, as I've seen on a couple of occasions
that SETUP is more sensitive than XP itself when it comes to reading
CDs.

Otherwise, make sure that you didn't lose a RAM chip by doing a RAM
test. Bad RAM can crap out an install.
