Trouble setting up Windows Home Edition

I was having trouble setting up Windows Home Edition as it kept hanging up
at 'Setup cannot copy driver.cab' I carried on without it but it would set
up.

I tried Windows Pro, and that has worked fine. It did stall at Cannot copy
Driver.cab, but on retry went through fine.

However I don't really want XP Pro, as I have given up with it in the past
do to not being able to get my home network working with its overly
complicated settings for my use.

Now I'm up and running with Pro can I edit the HE files (e.g. copy
Driver.cab). I have tried this unsuccessfully so far. Also which of the two
sets of the systems files are which? How can I tell the difference?

This would indicate that your Home Edition CD is faulty. Causes of file copy
errors during setup include, bad RAM, a bad hard drive, a bad cd drive, and
bad installation media, since Pro installs fine I would guess your Home
Edition cd is scratched or otherwise defective.

Have tried it with another copy (for test purposes only) and that does the
same.

Was this "copy" an original or a burned copy of the first media you tried?

Just for giggles I would run Memtest86 and the hard drive mfg's diagnostic
utility to rule out any hardware issues. I seem to recall another instance
of someone having this issue but can't locate it at the moment.

It's a brand new HD and I have run memtest and it's fine.

A brand new drive is no guarantee that it's not bad. I would tend to think
it's not with the results you've had, but it doesn't hurt to check.

Yes it's beginning to look like the most straightforward.

The first prob I'm having is setting up the Belkin Wireless Network Aapter.

I'm uninstalling it from device manage, then rebooting, then pointing
Windows to the drivers when it reboots, but it says it can't finf them.

Looking the easiest way. First prob - can't get the Belkin Wireless Network

Sounds like bad ram or bad sectors on your hard drive that havn't been
marked as bad sectors.

Have managed to install XP Pro, but 2 diff Home Editions hang at driver.cab.
