I am trying to install the windows fax. I have gone to control panel/add
remove programs/add remove windows com ponents. I select fax. It asks for
the windows xp home edition service pack 2 disc. I have the original disc
which is service pack 1, and an upgrade disc for service pack 2. neither
disc satisfies the request. any help please?

locate the win 32 cabinet self extractor. What exact file name am I looking

avicap.

lzexpand
mmsystem
msvideo
olecli
olesvr
shell
tapi
ver
(all these have a .dll extension) the system folder also contains device

The names of the compressed files are already listed. Did you find them? It
doesn't sound as if you did.

yes, i did find the files; as directed in the post
(http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/FAQFAX.htm#_Toc88835132 ) to which i was
referred, i need to extract them because they did not have the full dll
extension. so it is the win32 cabinet self extractor that i am looking
for. in order to extract the files that I need to install the windows fax.
the post said that the extractor application would be in the system folder
but it was not.

If i am misunderstanding the directions in the post , please let me know.
Are you saying that the files I listed in my previous post (the files which I
did find in the system folder) are in some way part of what I need to do?

Thank you again for your time.

Use expand.exe, which should be in C:\Windows\System32 (or
C:\WINNT\System32, as the case may be). In a Command Prompt window,
type expand /? [enter] for syntax.

For example:

expand c:\I386\fxsapi.dl_ c:\windows\system32\fxsapi.dll

Put your disk in and when it asks for the disk, click the browse button and
point it to the i386 folder on your xp disk.

You may also be able to use the context menu's "Open with..." command to do
the trick.
