insert backup disk dialog box before scans

Before each scan I get an insert backup dell installed
progams disk dialog box. Why is this happening? Can it be
stopped? I want to be able to run scans when I am away
from the computer and I don't want to have to leave the
disk inserted all the time.

Some other folks are seeing a similar issue during installation. I think
both relate to the Windows Installer, which can behave strangely if it
believes a previous installation hasn't completed properly.

If the item being requested is something you can install, even though it is
already there--reinstalling it might be one route to fixing this.

The other method that has proved successful in the case of the install-time
issues is the Microsoft installer cleanup app:

I tried inserting the disk, it seems to install but the
next time I reboot the computer and try to run a scan the
dialog box reapears and I have to reinsert the backup
disk. I also tried the installer cleanup to no avail. Any
other ideas?

Is the item for which the install is being requested listed in control
panel, add or remove programs?

If so, I would remove it there, and re-test.

Can you say more about what model of Dell this involves, and the exact name
on the CD that is being requested? I've got a number of Dell's of various
vintages in an office and I could check whether this CD uses the Windows
installer, or perhaps this is some other issue entirely.
