Is there a way to clean up the registry entries for
the Inactive Icons notifications accumulated in Task Bar:
START / properties/Taskbar/Hide Inactive Icons/CUSTOMIZE..

Under PAST ITEMS a lot of "dead references" come up: how
do I get rid of them?

Thanks

I thought the only way to get rid of them is from the
Registry. I could not find any other way (there are
dozens of "junk entries" there, even of applications I
unistalled long ago.
What is your suggestion? (4 times a year...?)

Tks

To Clear Past Items Manually - Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this
key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify
Delete the IconStreams and PastIconsStream values.

For automatic removal:

Remove Past Items From the Notification Area (Line 53)

Taskbar Repair Tool Plus!

Ahh so that's where the little buggers were hiding ... in binary. I
searched the registry for individual text items and of course come up
empty.

Yep and all day, too. What the thousand dollar question is and I can't
image why: Ok, that worked but how can I now put them back!!!

You, wanna tell 'em why you can't or just plainly ask why would you want
to?.....)

Thanks Kelly (you came to my rescue once before!)
I forget to have a peep in your Site, but now I have made
a book-mark for it for future reference.
