Problem with hiding inactive icons

Mary

For some reason, the ability to hide inactive icons has suddenly
stopped working. I've downloaded the fix from Kelly's page but this
made no difference. I'm currently running Windows XP Pro SP2 with all
updates, and I have tried everything to resolve this issue.

Just to clarify, when you right click the taskbar, then go to
Properties, and then check the box marked "Hide Inactive Icons", there
will usually be chevrons marking the disappearance of icons that have
not been recently clicked. For me, there isn't. They just seem to
build up, and it's annoying not to have the option to hide them
anymore. I've customized the behavior of the icons, and all are marked
"Hide When Inactive" but it isn't doing anything.

If anyone could help me understand what's going on, and maybe what I
could do to fix it, I would really appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

Just a thought. When you checked the "Hide Inactive Icons" in the
taskbar tab and then customised, did you click "Apply"?

Clicking OK is fine, too. All clicking Apply does is apply the setting
and leave the window open. OK will apply the setting and close the
window. Either way, the setting will be applied.

Yes, I know what you're saying "should" be correct.
It's just that sometimes, when things don't behave as they should, a
little unchecking/checking and applying kicks things back into gear.

Ahhh, one of life's little "Window's Moments". :)

You've got it.
Looking at the OP's problem, I can't see why the icons are not hiding.
Thought a little brute force and ignorance may help.
