I was told earlier that to hide my inactive icons on the taskbar, I had to
right click at the bottom, click properties and then check off "Hide Inactive
Icons"....... That didnt work. The only way I can hide them now that works is
to click the customize icon that its beside the "Hide Inactive Icons" box and
then change all of the little pull down boxes to say "Always hide" But even
this little fix I found only works temporarily. It works until I restart the
comp. then goes back to default. anyways.... How can I fix this whole
problem. I have no idea why it's not hiding them anymore. It used to work but
just.... stopped one day I guess.

Run the edit on line 30 left side and reboot

Then reset your customization.

I tried what you said and it did not work. My icons next to the clock do not
auto hide when not in use anymore. It doesn't work even with everything
properly set in the task bar and start menu properties. I'm using XP Pro.
This feature just decided not to work anymore no matter what you do.
