Hide inactive icons will not hide any icons if there aren't enough icons to
hide.

How many icons are present in Notification Area when you encounter this
behavior? Is this sudden, new behavior or an ongoing problem?

Are you running WinXP, WinXP SP1, WinXP SP2, or WinXP SP3?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)?

I don't think you have any icons to hide. The ones you list are going to
show up in notification area because they frequently active.

See Colin's reply. Many of the Notification Area icons are for applications
running in the background all the time. If you've not customized any of
these icons to give them an "Always hide" attribute, they will probably
always be present.

I certainly hope you've either reinstalled Avast or installed another
anti-virus application.
