import of ms office outlook 2003 into same under windows vista

I am a long time user of windows xp and office 2003. I just recently
purchased a new machine with windows vista ultimate on it. I have
reinstalled MS office 2003 under vista without a problem and did all updates
to it, no problems. I however have a backup from windows xp of my
outlook.pst file with m contacts, calendar and email files. I cannot import
or open this file under windows vista. I have double checked the file on
another machine with xp and it is fine. I get either a required permissions
not present, i am admin priveledges, or my outlook crashes.
help and thanks

You shouldn't need to import it at all...just open it. Copy the .PST file to
your new computer -- you can put it anywhere you want it, but don't overwrite
one .PST file with another -- and make sure it is not marked read-only. In
Outlook, click the File menu, then Open, then Outlook Data File, and browse
to your .PST file. If it doesn't open with all your information intact, post
back.

Check that the read-only attribute is not set. Also check the file's
permissions that you have full access rights. Being the administrator
does not automatically grant you access rights.

Avoid using Import from a PST file. Open it from Outlook, then use as
it, or drag-and-drop items you want copied into your new PST file.
