Outlook 2003 on Windows Vista

I have Windows XP Pro on my old laptop and recently just got a new laptop
with Windows Vista on it...Installed the Office 2003 that I had on the new OS.

But, I try to open and/or Import the .pst file but its telling me that I
dont have permission to open and/or import the file.

When I created the .pst file, I didnt put any password it. I have opened the
..pst file on my other computer with Windows XP Pro and it works.

So, with any Windows XP with Office 2003...it works
But, with any Windows Vista with Office 2003...it doesnt work...

Help....PLEASE

Don't Import or open the file directly. Copy the pst file to the new computer
without overwriting your current Outlook.pst file. Then open Outlook and use
File, Open OL data file on the menu to open and use it.

will the .pst file it doesnt really matter where i put it, as long as i dont
overwrite any other ones...but its in the main root of the c: drive...

but i exported it from the old outlook, note that i dont have the old laptop
anymore...its been sold.

It does matter, in Vista, since Vista impliments a number of file
permissions issues, and in any case storing any data file in the root
drive/folder is not a reccommended place - if nothing else it can make
backup more troublesome.

Try placing it in My Documents, ensure any read only attribute is off. If it
still baulkes then its possible your export corrupted the pst

My wonderful Boss was currently having this problem. I think i've found a
workaround. I've imported the PST file from a network location/server that
didnt run Vista. Seems to be importing cleanly. hope this helps. Maybe a
flash drive would also do the trick? As long as the file doesnt hit vista and
get thoose permissions added... shouldn't have a problem...

Just a comment; MS doesnt support the use of a pst over a network as it
can/does lead to corruption
Importing is never the way to deal with native OL data, it loses too much
data.
The reason it worked in your case was that the import overcame the
permissions issue, however storing the pst in the Documents folder then
opening it in OL would have also overcome the permissions issue

NEVER import from a PST. You WILL lose data.
