Importing into Outlook 2007

Hi

I am running a dual-boot PC. One side in XP SP2 with Office 2003 and the
other side is Vista RC1 with Office 2007. I want to transfer my messages from
Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007 as I want to use Vista and Office 2007. I have
tried to export the file under Outlook 2003 to a pst file and then import
under Outlook 2007.

First problem was permissions, which I have corrected, but now when I try
import I get an error message which says that the pst file cannot be opened.
No reason why. I have checked both attributes and permisions and cannot see
anything out of the ordinary. Does Outlook 2007 have a new format for the pst
file?

Please help thanks.

You prob. have your data already in a PST file (check Tools, Account
Settings, Data Files). Simply copy that file to your Vista partition and
add it to Outlook there.

Hi Patrick

Wow as simple as that! Thank you so much. I was struggling a bit there. I
copies the PST into my user folder on the Vista partition and then evrything
worked fine. The import was successful.

Thanks again

A similar question I have is how one can import Outlook 2003 settings
into Outook 2007. Office 2003 includes a tool to save the settings to a
file. However, I did not find such a utility available in Office 2007.

That tool has been passed off to the Windows Vista group. It is no longer an Office tool.

Thank you, Milly.

That's disappointing as it'll force you to switch over to Vista for
which I am not ready yet (due to a couple problems I'm having with it
in regards to password-protected consumer NAS drives.)

Thank you again for your response.

I am absolutely totally frustrated. This is one of the worst upgrade
experiences I have ever had. I can not get my pst files from Office 2003
imported in any way into Windows Mail. I have even tried installing Outlook
2003 (and afer vailidation issues resolved) still can not get it to run as it
can not find mapi32.dll. For a similar reason the import tool will not work.

So I can not use Outlook 2003 on my computer (which I wanted to do as I read
that that might enable me to do the import to 2007). I can not get 2007 to
recognize or import my pst files. I have wasted hours. Help!

Thank you

I think part of your issues is cuased because you are mixing up things.
Windows Mail is not Outlook 2007. Windows Mail is the successor of Outlook
Express and a completely separate product. It is not able to read your
pst-files.

What upgrade path did you choose, what products do you have and where do you
want your mail eventually to end up in?

Thank you very much. You really clarified this. Not being that familiar
with the Vista interface, the only option I saw in the Program options was
Windows Mail, which was near the top. After your post, when I went to Office
2007 and clicked on it, then I saw Outlook 2007 and was able to get
everything going.
