Immediate restart after hibernation

I'm trying to setup Wake On Lan on my Windows XP machine. When I
enable and then hibernate the machine, it immediately restarts. I've
tried disconnecting the ethernet cable and turning off all my WiFi
devices but it didn't make any difference. So far the only way I've
managed to get the machine to hibernate (and stay hibernated) is to
disable Wake On Lan.

Any ideas?

First thing to determine is whether or not your system is ACPI compliant.
In device manager do you find an item called Microsoft ACPI -Compliant
System?
It will be there only if Windows XP setup has installed an ACPI HAL.
If not ACPI compliant, you cannot utilize Wake On LAN.

Yes, Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System is listed.
