IE6 and Windows Explorer - missing favorites

In Win2k ... both my windows explorer and IE6 my favorites are
missing. Its clear that my favorites are still available as I can see
the directory and view the individual entries. My favorites are stored
in c:\Documents and Settings\username\Favorites

I tried a few things already. First I made a backup copy so I don't
loose my links. The Favorites directory is not hidden or protected. I
tried moving the bad Favorites to another location and replacing it
with my backup copy. Also tried searching through my registry but
didn't see anything obvious. I also ran Spybot and nothing was wrong.

Any ideas? How to I get my system to again recognize my Favorites
folder?

I have a very similar problem, although i'm using XP.

I can see my latest favorites in windows explorer, but in
IE I only see favorites from 2 months ago.

How do I remap my favorites to show up correctly in IE?
