My daughter uses IE 7.X and she has often a problems when she is using
IE.7.x and then it says "the IE has experienced a problem and needs to shut
down".

She says, that after an hour or so she can get back on the computer and it
works, but more often than not she gets the same error.

I told her it may be an overheating problem and suggested to remove the side
panels, look whether the fans are running, that there is not a big dust
bulidup (I do not thing that is a problem since she keeps the house very
clean).

Anyone want to make another suggestion?

I shall pass it on to her since she does not do newsgroups.

Thanks

PS her machine is a windows xp, I think about 1 GB memory and a CPU of about
2 GHZ (I think)

Hello,

Try running IE7 without add-ons

Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer 7
(No Add-ons) to start without any add-ons.

Close the browser and see whether the problem occurs again.

If the problem does not occur again, start IE7, go to Tools > Manage Add-ons
and disable all the add-ons and enable them one by one till the problem
appears and you get the culprit.

Overheating problems would probably manifest themselves in more ways than
with IE. The causes of the above error are usually two:

1. Incompatible add-ons: What if you right click the IE icon on the desktop
and choose Start Without Add-ons?
Or go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No Add-ons).

2. Malware already installed on the computer: Help with malware

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

One more thing: Did her PC come with IE 7 pre-installed? If not, try
uninstalling IE 7 (which will revert you to IE 6), and see if the problem
persists.
