IE 7 opens in blank page

I have Windows XP Service pack 2. I have IE 7. Lately when I click on
a link in another program I get to the browser, but it opens a blank
page. If I click on my home page it will go there.
Why does it open a blank page instead of going to the link web site.
I just installed Firefox on the machine two days ago since then I
noticed this problem. Could this be interfering with IE? Thank you.

Hi,
Is IE7 the default browser? Check that at Control Panel> Add or remove
programs> Set program access and defaults.

Next from http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:
DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.
