Lately, when I'm surfing the net and have several IE windows and tabs open, a
problem with ?-loading-? a web page will cause all my IE windows to crash.
This is not just happening on one PC but two.
What has MS done to us now??

What used to happen is that the ?- bad -? web page wouldn't load or that
particular IE window would crash.

I am afraid that "MS has done [nothing] to 'us' now"...
I say that because I have hundreds of machines with Windows XP and IE7
installed that i support and none of them have reported this issue. I
personally use several machines in this state and do not have the issue you
are referring to. In other words - it is entirely possible that the problem
is somewhat unique to you and/or your computer.

Do all accounts on the computer demonstrate the same issue? If you do not
currently have more than one account - create a new one and try it out just
for kicks - see if it is possible something with your personal profile. If
you have access to a second computer - try to reproduce it there.

Are you fully up to date?
Do you have any 'all encompassing' security software tha could be causing
this?
Have you scanned your system for malware with several different well-known
reliable antispyware applications?

IE, tools menu, Delete Browsing History/"Delete Files" button for Temporary
Internet Files.

What is the Limit on the browsing history ? I have ~350meg of Temporary
Internet Files. It tools/options suggests 250 meg as an upper limit. I
guess I like my history!

Next Question: Why the limit ?

It's limited only by the space available on the drive. You set the upper size
in IE, tools menu, Options, General tab, "browser history" area, "Settings"
button

I agree, that is what I thought. I have a 93 Gig HD of which 50.3 Gig are
used and 42.7 Gig are free. I have set my limits to 1024 Mb in the
"Settings" of the "browser history". I thought that I was "OK".
You may well be correct, but I would really like to know before I destroy my
"history" since there is no way to save it otherwise - I've tried, when I had
to transfer my old HD (30 Gig) to the new '100Gig' HD.

I'm still searching for the answers.

Depending on how you have your browser set, it may check the temporary Internet files before requesting the files from the server, so it may ultimately slow your browser down the more temp files you have. Just my 2cents.

Both my desktop and laptop have the same problem. Both are updated with
respect to windows and Norton. I do not have "norton internet security".

The only other problem I have is that it takes me 6-15 min to get anything
to come up on line. I use a dial up (built-in modem - 56k) and the 'Status'
window cumes up ok. Then everything stops! My Windows Live touble shooter
goes through it thing and says I 'may have a port not setup correctly or a
firewall issue' (I've turned OFF my windows firewall and do not believe
Norton has one activated).

My desktop is wired into a linksys wireless router with NO cable or dsl
modem connection. This is done so my laptop can have wireless access to my
desktop - that works.

After I hit "repair" in the "Windows Live touble shooter", everything THEN
begins to work. I get NO feedback as to which "Port/s" or specific firewall
is involved !! This gets very annoying.
