IE 6 will not launch

IE 6 launch never opens a window ...bombs with typical error message:
"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience."

I'm using XP Home ( SP2) and IE6 v6.0.2900.2180 ....error details always
indicate failure is in module advapi32.dll

Note that connection is fine ( email is unaffected ), malware reports are
clean, and interestingly enough, Firefox bombs with the same problem *most*
of the time ...but eventually launches after quite a few tries...!

Thanks for any help

Adding to PA Bear advice;
ADVAPI32.dll: Advanced Windows 32 Base API DLL and can be found in this
path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ADVAPI32.dll
Also if you have mistyped the Name and it was ADVAPI.DLL then it is a Virus
and you need to scan for Viruses.
