Ron,

Yes, Windows ME will work as an ICS host, and any other hosts on the LAN
(Windows ME, 2K, XP, etc) with ip auto configuration on can be ICS clients.

The question is, though: Do you really want to?

Do you have broadband, or PPP-compatible dialup? If so, connecting the two
computers with a router is the responsible, and cost-effective, solution.

All computers will be safer. The router will block any malevolent (trash)
internet traffic. This further protects the internet, from your becoming
infected and spreading the infection.

The would be ICS host, which would waste cpu by running ICS, will have less to
do.

All computers will run better, with the router blocking the trash internet
traffic. Any personal firewall on either computer will have less to do, because
the router will block most malevolent traffic. And the would be ICS host, which
would waste cpu by running ICS, will have less to do.

All computers will run independent of each other. With ICS, you have to have
one computer on whenever you wish to access the internet from any other. With a
router, this is not true.

If you can afford to have more then one computer, and broadband, you can afford
a router. For many reasons.

Thanks Chuck,
I think that I've tried every possible network configuration but the XP Machine still won't find the Internet.
I'll keep tryng until I can get a router though.

Ron,

That's strange.

Please provide ipconfig information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Identify operating system (by name and version) with each ipconfig listing.
