ICS not working

HI,
I have a problem accessing the Internet from an ICS client:

I have 2 WinXP computers connected through LAN (file sharing, IP and pinging
each other works fine).
I configured the internet host (Win XP SP1) to allow ICS, and configured the
firewall (Sygate personal firewall) to allow access.

The problem is the ICS client computer's (Win XP SP2) browser cannot connect
to the internet through the browser. Pinging an external site's domain or IP
results in "Destination host unreachable". This also happens when if I turn
of the firewall.

(P.S. I cleared the "LAN settings" checkboxes under IE's "Internet Options")

Would appreciate any idea and assistance.

These tests should help find the problem:

1. On the ICS host computer, right click the local area network
connection and click Status | Support | Details. It should show:

IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: none
DNS Server = none

2. On the ICS client computer, right click the local area network
connection and click Status | Support | Details. It should show:

IP Address: 192.168.0.x (1<x<255)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server = 192.168.0.1

3. If #1 and #2 are right, open a command prompt window on the client
and enter these lines. Each one should get four replies:

ping 192.168.0.1
ping 216.239.39.99
ping google.com

4. If #1-#3 are right, enter these addresses in Internet Explorer on
the client. They should both take you to the Google web page:

http://216.239.39.99
http://google.com

Hi,

Setting the Gateway and DNS on the ICS client did the job.

Thank you very much !

You're welcome. When you assign a static IP address to an ICS client,
you have to make those settings along with the IP address and subnet
mask.
