Hp printer on XP

My two day old Dell computer will only print(test page
OK) from the front USB ports on the computer. When I plug
the printer(HP 882C) into any of the 5 usb ports in the
back of the computer it comes up with "new hardware
unknown".

Any ideas?

Did you use the Add Printer Wizard to install the printer... USB printers
have to have their software installed BEFORE connecting the printer to the
PC.
