HP LaserJet 5 - Error 79

John Hobbs

Hi

Printing an invoice from an accounting program receive the following error

79 Service (01BF)

Switching the printer off and then on clears the problem

Any ideas as to the meaning of the error

Googling reveals a suggestion that we are sending an unknown font to the
printer but the invoice we print is sent to the printer at least 20 - 30
times a day

John
79 Error is an internal controller error.
The book says power the printer OFF, then back ON. If this error persists,
replace the Formatter.
Remove third party memory, if installed. (I would be inclined to remove all
addon memory if you have any installed whether third party or not and see if
that clears the error.)
May also be caused by driver or application incompatibilities, or a defective
toner cartridge.
Since you have not changed the aplication or fonts and if it is not toner
cartridge or memory related then most likely the formatter has failed.
